Immersion in Tranquility

An environment of healing

Nature, peace and quiet welcome you. Set in a fabulous location within the Brecon Beacons National Park offering lovely views over the surrounding countryside, our magical 7 bedroom 250 year old period remote stone farmhouse, originally a Drovers Inn, stands in 3 acres of established garden, pasture and small wooded area.

The property is 650' up on the edge of the Black Mountains, on the site of an ancient iron age settlement, with an iron age fort just 10 minutes walk away. Additionally the property lies at the edge of the last ice age glacier, with many huge rocks around the house brought down with the glacier. There is an unrestored barn, cow shed, stable, conservatory with grapevine, two green houses, and a stream running length of property.

Set in Natural Beauty

Surrounded by splendor

There are excellent walking routes from the house, particularly up the hill to the iron age fort with incredible views across the valley. Lots of trekking in the mountains for the hale and hearty. Excellent WiFi and mobile service is available on all networks, or just disconnect from the world and read a book. Meditate by our private stream, watch the grass grow, and listen to the cascading water endlessly flowing toward the sea.

There are many National Trust owned properties to visit nearby, ruined castles, Myddfai (famous for the physician herbalists in the 12th century) with a visitor centre just 6 miles away, Botanical gardens half an hour away, Cwmdu village and Inn owned by the National Trust is a must to visit just 20 minutes away. Great shopping in Llandovery, Llandeilo and Carmarthen all within half an hour away. Red Kite feeding station not too far away, riding, visit the gold mines or relax in the pretty garden and lawns of Cwmdu sanctuary. Beaches at New Quay, Aberaeron and Llanelli are just one hour to 1.5hrs away.

A Sanctuary of Simple Comforts

Everything you need

We are blessed with our own truly wonderful natural spring water and private drainage. The house has two wood burners (in sitting room and hall/dining room) and an old wood burning Rayburn range in the kitchen, which heats the radiators and hot water. Organic vegetables are growing in the Cwmdu 'allotment' and a meditation garden is also under construction. The house is rustic but cosy and warm with electric radiators if necessary.

The house is an ongoing process of being lovingly restored as funds come in and is now 90% completed. Fire doors throughout, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on central alarm system, regular water testing and ultra violet water purifier. Electricity certificate and all required certificates are up to date. Solar panels and alternative electricity will be the focus of future projects.

Remote but Accessible

Off the beaten path, but still easy to reach

Cwmdu Retreat offers the perfect combination of isolation and accessibility. Travel by car is recommended, as we are 5.5 miles from Llandeilo, 3 miles from Llangadog and 10.5 miles from Llandovery. Swansea is 45 minutes away. Pickup and/or dropoff at Swansea or Carmarthen can be arranged for £35 each way. There is also a train station on the Heart of Wales rail line just 4 miles away at Ffairfach or Llangadog, where you can be picked up or come by taxi. We are 25 minutes from the end of the M4, which connects to Cardiff (1.5 hours) and London (4 hours).

The climate in this area can be unpredictable and rainy at any time of year, so bring wellies, rain coats and jumpers (just in case) and walking shoes for all those mountain hikes.
